Sports Participation and Beliefs about Male Dominance: A Cross-National Analysis of Sexist Gender Ideologies

To fill the gap in empirical research on relationship between sexist gender ideologies and sports participation, I examined how participation affects endorsement of by men women country-level inequalities moderate this relationship. For analysis, used cross-national survey data from World Values Survey European Study, including observations collected 2005 2016 57,817 61,080 74 countries that vary terms equality, religiosity, modernization, economic development. My findings show when controlling for sociodemographic factors between-country differences ideologies, who are club members endorse to a significantly greater degree than not members. This finding is independent prevalence country. Furthermore, very gender-inegalitarian countries, active tend hold less or members, while they do differ substantially relatively egalitarian countries.
